NATO countries are due to launch a joint operation against sea pirates off Somalia’s coast
NATO countries are due to launch a joint operation against sea pirates off Somalia’s coast later this month. Portugal, Canada, the Netherlands, Spain and the United States will send their warships to the region. The European Union went on its own military mission against the pirates in December last year. Naval ships from South Korea and Japan are due to arrive in the Gulf of Aden area shortly. Russia’s men-of-war began patrolling the African Horn area in autumn last year. At present a squadron of Russia’ Pacific Fleet ships under the large submarine hunter The Admiral Vinogradov are active off Somalia’s coast.
