From APICAW - Asian Pacific Islander Coalition Against the War
dear everyone,
as many of you have no doubt heard, the obama administration--which has pursued a reckless neoconservative policy in northeast asia--has recently sent admiral mike mullen, the head of the joint chiefs of staff, to the region to thump his chest. recently, we've witnessed one massive joint military exercise after another--u.s. and japan, u.s. and south korea--which contributes greatly to regional instability. the u.s., japan, and south korea have reconsolidated their cold war alliance, and south korea recently changed its rules of engagement so that it is positioned to strike north korea not in tit-for-tat measure but with disproportionate force. the foundation is set for all-out conflict, and the stakes are nuclear.
with all this in mind, the national campaign to end the korean war has just launched an online petition and letters to obama calling for the u.s. to pursue the path of peace in korea. we are circulating the following action alert (see below).
a few urgent requests:
- could you take a moment to sign the petition as an individual?
- could circulate the below action alert to organizations that would be willing--as organizations--to endorse this petition? (see #2 below.)
- could you circulate the following action alert widely to friends and allies?
