'The Korean Confederation of Trade Unions (KCTU: Chairman Lim Sung-Kyu) is driving for the visit to the North Korea, planned in January next year, through the way of land.
The Korean Confederation of Trade Unions announced on Dec. 23 that 20 representatives, including chairman Lee Sung-Kyu, would visit the North Korea from Jan. 13 to 16, next year, for the ‘discussion on the ways of solidarity cooperation between the workers in the South and North Korea in 2010. The visit to the North Korea last September, which was cancelled because the government did not allow it, has been driven by the way of passing Sunyang, China.
While it is the situation in which the realization of the visit to the North Korea, itself, is not easy, the attempt by the KCTU to drive for the visit to North Korea through land way is interpreted as its will that it is willing to stand in front, for the forming the reconciliation mood, as in 1999, when the exchange between the workers in South and North opened with the ‘South and North Korean Workers’ Joint Soccer Game for the Aspiration of Unification’.
The KCTU, saying through the press interview announcing the visit to the North Korea, by land, at 11am, Dec. 23 that, “The KCTU, by realizing the South and North Korean Workers’ Joint Soccer Game, has subdued the tension caused by the western sea skirmish, at the time in 1999, and has contributed, as a public stepping stone, to the announcement of the June 15 Joint Statement, the next year”, announced that “ We expect the KCTU, by opening the blocked land way again in 2010, and working in front, toward the ways of cooperation between the South and North Korea, would greatly contribute to the development on the current frozen relationship between the South and North Korea.”
[…]
Otherwise, the KCTU stated that, with the momentum of visit to North Korea by land [in January], it would spread the ‘public unification movement’ in 2010 when the June 15 Joint statement meets its 10th anniversary.'
