BRUSSELS, Belgium — NATO military officials are pledging forces for the
alliance's global military missions, except the war in Afghanistan which is
still awaiting President Barack Obama's decision on whether to commit new
troops.
NATO spokesman Col. Greg Julian says Tuesday's staff-level meeting will focus on
generating contributions for NATO's force in Kosovo, its anti-piracy patrols off
Somalia, a naval mission in the Mediterranean, and the alliance's various
headquarters.
A special meeting on Afghanistan has tentatively been scheduled for Dec. 7 after
Obama's expected announcement and a meeting of NATO foreign ministers.
The alliance holds regular annual conferences where allies pledge troops,
equipment and other resources to fulfil the requirements of NATO missions
abroad.
