세계 7대 경관 등재사업이 뜨거워지고 있다.

The registration business [for the Jeju Island] to be one of the seven wonders in the world is being heated.

독도광고로 주목을 받은 가수 김장훈이 뉴욕 스퀘어가든에 제주도 홍보 광고를 올리며 외국인 투표율도 오를 조짐이다.

While Kim Jang-Hoon, a singer who had been noticed with his advertisement on Dok-do had an advertisement on the Jeju Island in the [New York Times], it is prospected that the foreigners’ vote rates [for the Jeju] would be also higher.

뉴세븐원더스 홈페이지에 우리나라의 투표상승률이 2주째 1위를 달리고 있다고 한다.

It is told that the rising vote rate in my country is running the 1st for two weeks, according to the homepage of New Seven Wonders site.

국가가 본격적으로 나서서 공무원 투표를 늘리고 각종 단체에도 투표를 장려하면서 이루어지는 7대 경관 등재 사업이 부디 순수한 목적이기를 간절히 희망해 본다.

I desperately hope that the registration business for the New Seven Wonders that our nation actively steps for increasing the votes by the government officers and promotes votes even by various groups has only a pure purpose.

제주도가 세계적인 관광지가 되어 유네스코에서 인정해준 자연과학부문 3관왕이 더욱 가치를 발휘하는 섬이 된다면 얼마나 좋을까.

How good would it be if the Jeju Island is to be the world tourism site to display its value more as the UNESCO triple crowned in the nature science field!

상상하는 것만으로도 흐뭇한 일이겠다.

It would be a pleasurable thing even with an imagination on it.

하지만 이런 상상은 얼마나 순진한 발상이 될까.

However, how ignorant idea of such imagination!

국제자유도시를 추진하기위해 만든 제주특별자치도의 취지상 세계 7대 경관에 등재되는 순간 대기업과 세계의 유수 자본에게 투자의 타당성을 고취시켜내어 관광특구사업이 본격적으로 막이 오를 것이다.

As soon as the Jeju Island is registered as one of the new seven wonders in the world, the tourism-specialized business would be full-blown as it would infuse the justification on investment to the big corporations and prominent capitals in the world, seen by the intent of the Jeju Special Self-Governing Island

그 관광특구내에는 전 세계 부자들을 상대로 휴양관광을 유치한다는 목적의 첨단의료단지가 들어서게 되고 각종 도박산업이 자리잡게 될 것이다.

In the [planned] tourism-specialized zone(s), high-tech medical complex of which the purpose is to install resort tourism for the riches in the world would enter and various kinds of casino business would be placed.

국민의 공공의료가 무너지든 말든, 도민의 삶이 도박으로 파탄 나든 말든 정부와 도정의 정책이 도덕성이 결여된 자본주의의 논리에만 맞춰져 있는 한 막을 방도가 없어 보인다.

Inasmuch as the policy of the central government and Island government counts only the capitalism logic that lacks of morality, with no concerns on the matter of whether the public medical treatment collapsing or not, and of whether the Island people’s lives being ruined or not, it seems there is no way to prevent those situations

고작 10년도 안되는 비전으로 두고두고 후손들에게 물려주어야 할 이 땅을 도륙내는 것은 황금알을 낳는 거위의 배에 칼을 대는 짓과 무엇이 틀린가.

What’s the difference between slaughtering this land that should be inherited to our next generations from a 10 years’ short sight and taking knife to the belly of a goose that produces golden eggs?

급하게 먹는 밥은 체하기 쉽고 급한 발걸음은 넘어지기 쉽다.

It is likely to be indigestive to eat hurried meal and likely to fall down to walk in hurriedness.

유네스코 3관왕의 타이틀을 잘 보전 하는 것만으로도 제주도는 결국 국제적인 관광지로 발돋움 할 수 있다.

The Jeju Island can rise as a world tourist site, after all, with only preserving the title of the UNECO-tripled crown itself.

그렇지 않아도 곶자왈을 파괴하는 관광열차, 골프장, 도로시설들로 인해 제주도는 몸살을 앓고 있고 서귀포 해양공원내 연산호 군락지의 생태를 위협하는 해군기지 공사가 진행중이다.

Without the tour trains, golf fields, and road facilities that destroy the Gotjawal, the Jeju Island is ill from fatigue and naval base construction that threatens the soft coral habitats in the maritime park of Seogwipo is going on in the Jeju Island.

해군은 오탁수 방지막을 설치하고 센서를 연산호 군락지에 띄워 용존산소량에 경보가 울리면 공사를 중단하는 친환경 공법이라 문제없다고 말하지만 업체관계자는 조류 때문에 오탁수 방지막 자체의 효용성이 크지 않고 부족한 공사기간 때문에 오염을 알아도 공사를 멈추기는 쉽지 않을 것이라고 슬쩍 실토했다.

Even though the navy says there would be the non-problamatic eco-friendly construction methods of installing layer for the prevention of dirty water [that occurs during construction] and of posing construction in case of alarm rung in the amount level of Dissolved Oxygen (DO) by the way of floating sensors on the soft coral habitats, a business personnel spat out the truth on the sly that the effectiveness of the prevention layer itself was not big because of tide and that it would not be easy to stop construction despite the knowledge on pollution due to short construction time.

환경파괴를 자행하면서 도대체 무엇을 위한 7대경관인가!

Then what on earth of seven wonders while destroying environment!

무엇을 위해 유네스코의 생물권보전지역과 자연유산과 지질공원을 따낸 것인가!

For what, the UNESCO titles of the bio-sphere protection area, natural heritage and geopark are there!

대기업의 자본을 끌어들여 향락산업과 도박장을 만들면 제주도의 경제발전에 도움이 된다고 하지만 그 중심에 도민이 없는 이유는 또 무엇인가!

Even though it is told that the capitals being drawn from the big corporations and made into the pleasure business & Casino site would be helpful for the economic development of the Jeju, what is the reason that there are no Island people in the center of such [benefits]?

제주도 부흥의 시발점을 만든 감귤산업이 정부나 도정이 주도 한 것도 아닌데 이제는 관광산업으로 돈을 벌겠다며 또다시 도민들의 희생을 강요하고 있다.

Even though the tangerine industry that marked the starting point for the revitalization of the Jeju Island has not been led by the central or Island government, they are enforcing the sacrifice of the Island people again by saying that they would earn money now from the tourism industry.
게다가 타당한 안보적 이유도 부족한 해군기지 사업으로 주민들의 삶이 아수라장 나락으로 떨어지고 바다와 바위와 소중한 농지가 사라져간다.

Further, the villagers’ lives are falling down into the hell due to the naval base business that lacks of any rational security reason while sea, rocks and precious farming lands are disappearing.

아름다운 맷부리와 구럼비 바위가 무참하게 부숴져 나가고 숱한 멸종위기 동식물들을 사장시킨다는 상상만으로도 끔직하기 이를데 없다.

It is more than horrible only with an imagination of the beautiful Metboori and Gurumbee rocks being broken and numerous endangered animals and plants being killed.

어찌 이 땅과 이 바다가 우리들만의 것이란 말인가.

How this land and sea exist only for us?!

우리들 인간이 이 땅을 밟기도 전 수천만년동안 이 땅과 바다와 함께 숨 쉬어 왔던 동식물들이 사라지고 있다.

The animals and plants who have taken breath together with this land and sea for hundreds of billions years even before the mankind stepped on this land are disappearing.

또한 수만년동안 바다를 지켜온 바위들이 부숴지고 콘크리트에 묻혀져 사라질 것이다.

The rocks that has kept the sea would be broken, buried under the concrete and then disappear.

그와 더불어 맷부리, 너븐여, 진소깍, 할망물, 구럼비, 물터진개, 솔대왓과 장구왓등 정답게 불러왔던 지명들도 중덕바다에서 사라지게 될 것이다.

Along with it even the site names such as the Metboori, Neobeunnyo, Jinsokkak, Halmangmool, Gurumbee, Mooltujingae, Soldawat (pine tree field)and Janggoowat will disappear from the Joongduk Sea.

유네스코 멸종위기 4급인 제주방언들이 콘크리트와 함께 영영 사라지면 우리 후손들은 무엇을 보며 제주도 방언의 맥을 유지 할 수 있을까.

How our next generation would maintain the tradition of the Jeju dialect if the critically endangered Jeju dialect disappear with concre.

우리의 삶이 우리가 가지고 있는 소중한 정신적 유산까지 파묻을 수밖에 없는 그런 삶이라면 남은 삶에는 어떤 의미가 남아 있기라도 한 것일까.

If our lives are such of what we cannot but bury our precious mental heritage that we have, will there be any meaning in our lives?

도법스님의 생명평화결사의 도보순례를 맞이하여 이 땅 제주에 진정으로 모든 뭇 생명들의 평온함을 기원하고 이 땅에 사는 민초들의 얼굴에서 시름이 덜어지길 기도하며 더불어 강정마을에 4년 전 갑작스레 들이닥쳐 어두운 그림자를 내뿜고 있는 해군기지건설이라는 역마가 사라지길 간절하게 소망을 담아본다.
