On Jan. 6, members of a human rights institute, Fukuoka, Japan visited the Gangjeong village during their trip on the subject of Jeju 4.3. uprising in 1948 and expressed their solidarity for the villagers. The Gangjeong villagers have been struggling against the naval base construction for more than three years and seven months.

The civic organizations in the Jeju Island, having a press interview on Jan. 6 and denouncing the insincere attitude of the mayor of the Jeju City, strongly demanded his sincere apology and reparation for the woman who was victimized on Dec. 27, 2010. Kim Byung-Lib, the mayor of the City of Jeju has prevented citizens’ peaceful tent vigil with oppression on Dec. 27 and 28 and since then, has not made a sincere response measure for a victimized woman, despite the citizens’ ongoing strong demands.
