Text Fwd: Korean petition result for the 8 Vandenberg arrestees

Upon the news of the arrest of the Vandenberg protesters on Jan. 31, two activists in Japan and Korea, talked about ways to spread the news and getting support from their countries, helped by Bruce Gagnon’s statement on the Jan. 31 arrest. You can see the Japan and Korean site here and here. As a part of it, the Koreans gathered sign to the Korean petition.

Below is the result of Koreans’ petition to demand the prompt release of the 8 arrestees and to criticize the United States’ government's unusual destruction of the peaceful protest on the day. While the Korean petition (For Korean 국문, see here) presented with Bruce Gagnon’s statement, to the Koreans was long and included the background of the Jan. 31 missile launch test from the Vandenberg AFB, three demands at the bottom of the petition were as below (translated). The Korean petition was thankfully uploaded in Peace Making, Korean internet site, as well. See here.

The total Korean signers to the Korean petition were 303 for the two days of Feb. 3~4. 239 signs were gathered on Feb. 3 while 64 signs were gathered on Feb. 4. Two signs still came on Feb. 6 and 7, even after the announcement of the release of the eight arrestees. Two organizations of the PKAR, South Korean branch and the Socialist Party of Korea have especially actively mobilized the members for sign. The representatives of the Jeju organizations and the main land organizations allowed to list the names of the organizations. The individuals from other organizations or without organizations also signed.

In detail:

Members of the Pan-Korean Alliance for Reunification (PKAR), South Korean branch [Total 172]
Members of the Socialist Party of Korea [Total 62]
Jeju Organizations [total 25]
Mainland Organizations [total 27]
Other Individuals [total 19]

Total Signers 305
___________________________________________________________________

We, the Koreans and Korean residents in the foreign countries, watching that there are the United States military industrial complex who aim the profits through arms sales on the premise of the non-existing virtual threats and at the sacrifice of welfare of the people in the United States & the world, and the dominant class in the United States who aim the selfish interest related to [the military industry], behind the [missile launch] test on Jan. 31, strongly criticize [the Jan. 31 missile launch].

We, also strongly criticizing the authorities of the Vandenberg AFB and the United States government who harassed and arrested the peaceful protesters in the rough way, including a weak elder in 80s, demand the below.

1. The authorities of the Vandenberg AFB and the United States government should promptly release the arrestees, and fairly revealing the whole truth of the unusual rough repression and arrest on Jan. 31, should openly apologize to the arrestees, to the people in the United States and to all the peace-loving people in the world. The arrested have made the noblest and hardest decision as human being and are suffering. It is right that they should be acknowledged and thanked by all the individuals and media who pursue the justice and truth.

2. President Obama should stop the betraying rhetoric on the nuclear disarmament and should launch for the true nuclear disarmament and arms reduction. For that, stop the development of missile defense system currently dangerously being developed, and stop the maneuvers that draw the European countries, Korea, Japan and other Asian Pacific ally countries into the dangerous game, using the NATO. The Vandenberg AFB, which is part of [the whole game] should be closed and the construction plan for the Jeju naval base, in Korea should be stopped as well.

3. Despite the nationalities, all the peace-loving citizens in the world should encourage the peace wish one another, should carefully watch and criticize the currents that, conspiring with the military capital, push the Earth into disaster, and should search for the ways together to make live the Earth, including for the measure against the climate change. Only by that, it can be said that we can realize the nobleness as human being, despite the small degree, as the exemplariness of the eight arrested in the Vandenberg.
