One of the most concerns about the naval base construction has been that the power shovels would break and destroy rocks to make roads in the Joongduk coast.
The process has been expected for this week, bringing much anxiety by the villagers.

On March 7, it was discovered that one power shovel and one crane truck were working on the coast. But they were not breaking the rocks. Instead the crane truck moved small rocks into the coast and the power shovel worked on sorting and arranging them evenly. (See the below videos) It is expected that the companies would put earth on the top of them and pave concrete later. The driver was told later to stop construction, facing the villager mayor who is a much senior to him and scolded him.

It was clear that the navy and Samsung were afraid of bringing villagers’ fury if they break rocks again since Jan. 20 when they broke the rocks with a power shovel, which was immediately met by villagers’ fury. Since then a sea-diving woman who was the aunt of the power shovel driver (the villager in favor of the naval base plan) was discovered to die on the sea on Jan. 29. The accident must have brought further fear for the villagers in favor of naval base plan and influenced the decision of the navy and construction companies.

As the village representative met the navy yesterday to negotiate on the process, it is told that the navy has told him that it would postpone construction a few days. But who knows? One cannot but think the navy is making tactic again.

Some villagers happened to see the intelligence police officers in the coast. When the villagers asked them whether they were not sorry of such beautiful coast was being destroyed, they agreed with it. The intelligence police officers said they, along with navy were doing their best to preserve the space as best as they can. Of course, their words were shit.

But one question is still lingered. It seems many of the Jeju natives including even policemen do feel sorry of this coast and village be destroyed. Do they really want the naval base in their beautiful Island? Or are they pushed to do it behind from somewhere?
