Members of the Life and Peace Fellowship have cleaned the sit-in tents with villagers all day yesterday. Grateful for all their hard and dedicated works!

The yellow banner of the Life and Peace Fellowship, hung in the ceiling of the sit-in booth in the Joongduk coast on which the navy has recently informed notice to people not to pass because of naval base construction. But disregarding it, the people to save the village and Island go there, so that the sea and rocks in the coast do not feel lonely.

The Island Council members of which more than half of its members are opposition parities are discussing on the resolution on the cancellation on the annulment of the absolute preservation areas of which the annulment of them was done in snatched way by the Grand National Party, the majority party then in December 2009.

The villagers appealed lawsuit since then and got its 1st court decision on Dec. 15, 2010 when the court made the decision of dismissing the lawsuit itself, saying the Gangjeong villagers were not qualified as the plaintiffs since they had not owned any properties in the areas and the villagers had not been directly affected by the annulment of the absolute preservation area. The villagers, protesting against it, had made numerous protests and produced statements, pressuring the court, Island government and Island Council, and appealed the lawsuit to the higher court on Dec. 27.

The issue on the absolute preservation area is directly related to the naval base construction since it is not allowed to construct any buildings in those areas.

The Island is currently being heated by the very issue. The Pan-Island Committee for Prevention of Military Base and for Realization of Peace Island are planning to have the culture event and rally on March 14 and 15. The Island Council will decide the matter of the resolution on the cancellation on the annulment of the preservation area on coming March 15.
