[Jeju Update] Navy is expected to have an opening ceremony right after New Year holidays/ Workers in the Jeju Island had a rally.

The naval base business committee was told to have planned an opening ceremony in the completed naval field office on Jan. 31 but to postpone it after the New Year holidays( in lunar calendar, Feb. 2 to 6), which is very much expected to be on Feb. 7. A sea-diving woman who was a relative of a villager who supports naval base was discivered to die in the sea in the morning of Jan. 29 and the navy was told to have considered such bad atmosphere.
A Jeju Domin Ilbo who reported above also said physical conflicts are expected after it if the navy enforces the construction in the coast as the villagers have appealed the lawsuit on the matter of absolute preservation area and the court decision on it has not come out yet.
Monday was quiet as well, with lots of snow and excavation research on cultural properties being posed again.

The Jeju workers had a rally in the Jeju City, in the evening of Jan. 31. It was their 70th day tent vigil and the Island government has not shown any sincere attitude to the hardships of workers and their demands. The video is the last scene of the rally. See photos on it

The workers in the Jeju Island had a rally on Jan. 31, 2011, demanding the Jeju Island government's sincere efforts to settle the matters on labor issue.
