[Jeju Update] Protest voices of workers in the Jeju Island extend/ Another excavation site for the possibility of cultural relics?


The sign reads: 'An important matter on the fate of the Jeju Island!
We demand the court to step for the rigorous judgment [regarding the cancellation on the unjust process of annulment of the absolute preservation areas]!'

Workers whose tent was forcefully removed by the police and city government officials in the morning of Feb. 21 are continuing their daily protest in the same site across the Island government hall (photo: in the morning of Feb. 22, 2011)

The banner reads: "Resign, Woo Keun-Min, Island governor who forcefully removed [workers' tent] and violently oppressed workers-the Jeju branch of the Korean Confederation of Trade Unions"


A Gangjeong villager, infuriated by the city's taking off of the Gangjeong villagers' sign against naval base that had been preserved in the workers' tent but taken off on the day of the city's removal of workers' tent recovered it from the city in the morning.

Workers stayed overnight in the same protest site where their tent was forcefully removed on Feb. 21. The workers are saying they would continue their protest no matter what the oppression by the Woo Keun-Min Island government on them. The photos in the upper side of the below are the workers welcoming morning in the protest site on Feb. 22 while the bottom photos are the workers sleeping and sitting around fire during their vigil on the night of Feb. 21.



Ssangyong workers in the Pyeongtaek factory made a solidarity visit for the oppressed Jeju workers.

A Gangjeong villager who strongly feels solidarity with workers stayed overnight with them.
