이날 개소식은 어렵게 현장 사무소가 완공된 만큼, 외부 인사는 초청하지 않고 자축하는 의미의 '자축연'으로 조촐하게 치러질 예정이라고 해군측은 밝혔다.

해군 측은 "현장 사무소 개소를 시작으로 해군기지 사업 발주처와 시공업체가 함께 근무하게 돼 보다 효율적인 업무 효과를 기대하고 있다"고 밝혔다.

해군 관계자는 “강정마을 앞에 건립된 현장 사무소인 만큼 2014년 제주기지가 완공될 때까지 지역주민 의견 수렴과 함께 갈등 해소의 장으로 활용하는 등 강정 주민들과의 열린 대화의 창구 기능을 할 것”이라고 말했다.

한편, 강동균 강정마을회장은 7일 <헤드라인제주>와의 전화통화에서 "해군측이 건설현장사무소 완공에 따른 기념행사를 갖는다는 것은 우리 강정주민들을 무시하고 자신들의 건설일정을 그대로 추진하겠다는 뜻으로 밖에 보이지 않는다"고 말해 해군의 개소식 개최에 반발하고 있다.

강정마을회가 공개적으로 절대보전지역 해제 무효소송 등 해군기지 관련 [항소]소송이 완료될 때까지 공사를 멈춰달라고 호소한 바 있다.
