USFK to hold English camp for Korean students
05-12-2010
Dozens of South Korean high school students will have a week-long stay at the homes of American soldiers stationed in Seoul as part of an annual English immersion program hosted by the U.S. Forces Korea (USFK).
USFK has organized the English camp every year since 2005 under its ``Good Neighbor'' community outreach program designed to improve relations with the host nation.
Sixty students, including five children of North Korean defectors, will stay at 42 homes of American soldiers for seven days starting May 16, the command said in a release.
``This program helps Korean students get intensive exposure to the English language and have a vivid experience of American culture as they stay at the American soldiers' homes,'' the release said. ``For American soldiers, it will help them understand regional society and promote USFK's roles.''
As part of the program, students will attend American classes, visit the border village of Panmunjom, U.S. army and air force bases, and attend a U.S. military concert and sports competition, it said.
