Tomorrow is the 50th anniversary of 3.15 people’s uprising in City of Masan in the Gyungsangnam-do, a province in the southern part of Korea. The 3.15 people’s uprising in Masan in 1960 was the beginning that has eventually led to 4.19 people’s uprising against the Lee Seung-Man dictatorship in the same year.
Many activists and artists here in Korea see the current Lee Myung Bak government as the return of the dictatorship(backed by the United States government) that has dominated South Korea from 1945 to 1992. Korea Report has uploaded the video on people’s uprising on April 19, 1960. I upload it here, as well, to remind the Korean history for us. The video made by the 'Memorial association of 4.19 revolution' starts with the title, " You, the inflamed of blood, dream the April 19 Revolution-cry toward the world of contradiction and lie (arbitrary translation)". The song,'Brush, Brush, Green Brush' has been one of the popular songs during the people's uprising in the 80s, in South Korea.
Brush, Brush, Green Brush (arbitrary translation of the below)
In this divided world where the severe wind blows and mother’s tear pierces my heart,
For the true world & freedom in which people’s spirit becomes the master,
I will row the river even though I may become black and blue watered like sagebrush.
Brush, brush, green brush, don’t tremble by the early wind.
In the place where I am tied under the iron bars, I will see you while I am alive.
