"Behind peace witness, a prophetic, transforming priest - Fr. Jack
McCaslin, friends, reflect on priest's ministry, impact"

By Joshua J. McElwee

OMAHA, NEB. -- Fr. Jack McCaslin can't remember how many times he's
been arrested.

As he sits in a brown reclining chair in his room at a retirement
community here, he takes his glasses off and starts turning them over
in his hands, pulling at the temples. "I don’t know how many," he says
at first, pausing to consider. "About 40, I think?"

After a moment more of contemplation, a wry, crooked smile crawls
across his 82-year-old face, bunching up the wrinkled skin of his
cheeks toward his eyes. “But I’ve only spent 30 days in jail!” he
adds, his voice now finding a higher pitch and filling with
excitement. “My fellow crooks call me ‘Teflon Jack!’ ”

Don't forget that Fr Jack goes to court for last Aug 9th line crossing
at STRTATCOM April 12 in the Omaha Fed. Court before Magistrat Judge
Tahalken. Judge Thalken just recently sentenced Mark Kenney to his 3rd
six month sentences. The last time Fr Jack was before Judge Thalken,
the Judge promise to send Fr Jack to jail regardless of his age or
health. Given Fr Jack's health any jail sentence given to Fr Jack
could be a 'death sentence'!

We are asking as many people who can to show up in court on Tues.
April 12th to show support Fr Jack. Anyone who plans be in the Omaha
Fed Court House must have a photo ID and can not have a camera or a
cell phone that can take pictures in the Fed building.

If you can't be with Fr Jack or Mark in court we are urging people to
write the Judge on Fr Jack's behalf at:
Magistrate Judge Thomas D. Thalken
Roman L. Hruska U.S. Courthouse
111 South 18th Plaza, Omaha, NE 68102
