Upon the 63th Jeju 4.3 uprising memorial, about 1,300 workers from the Korean Confederation of Trade Unions (KCTU) gathered in the Jeju 4. 3 culture and peace evening event held near the naval field office in the Gangjeong village to express their solidarity for the Gangjeong villagers' struggle against naval base construction. About 50 villagers joined it with joy and being empowered.

During the Korean Confederation of Trade Union's solidarity rally for the Gangjeong villagers who have struggled against naval base construction for 4 years on April 2, 2011, upon the 63th anniversary of Jeju 4. 3 uprising, two singers in traditional costumes sung lyrics against naval base construction in comic fashion, which brought much laughter from the audience.

Artists also held a cultural event for the 63th anniversary of the Jeju 4. 3 uprising, in a theater of the Jeju Culture Hall, Jeju City, 7pm, April 2.

After the KCTU rally, villagers, workers and other citizens gathered together in the village ceremony hall. Jeong Young-Hee, a woman in the Gangjeong village sang a traditional song. Her strong voice, reminding her staunch fights in the struggle against naval base construction brought much adore from the audience.
A woman living nearby Seogwipo region led the people with a traditional Jeju Island song. In the song, ‘ Iea-do sana,’ Iea-do is the Island existing in legend and reality, located near the Jeju Island.

On April 2, many people including from Gwangjoo and Japan visited the Gangjeong village top express their solidarity with the villagers’ struggle. Yang Yoon-Mo, a movie critic, welcomed the visitors and spoke about the necessity of the struggles.
People from the Gwangjoo uprising memorial committee visited the Joongduk coast on April 2, 2011. People shout, 'Naval base, absolutely, no.'
People from Japan visited the Joongduk coast. Yang Yoon-Mo, movie critic , who has been dong the tent vigil for near three years introduced himself and explained about the coast and naval base construction plan which people have opposed for four years.

The Joongduk coast in the Gangjeong village is told to be the only wet land rocky coast area in Korea. The spring water from the underground meets the sea water and various eco-systems exist here. (Video taken on April 2, 2011)
