On April 21, Shin Goo-Beom, an ex-Jeju Island governor, who is doing the 5th day solidarity fast for the movie critic Yang Yoon-Mo as of April 22 said in the press interview in the National Assembly that, “The naval base construction currently occurring in the Jeju is nothing but a criminal activity and the navy is betraying the residents under the excuse of national security and illegally destroying nature and trampling down people’s human rights.” He strongly demanded the National assembly’s investigation on the Jeju naval base construction.

100 bows in the struggle site against the Jeju naval base construction

In the evening after the day’s struggle, people gathered in the Joongduk coast, the reclamation-planned naval base area, to see the music concert sponsored by peace groups.

An ex-Jeju Island governor's appeal_ there should be no naval base in the Jeju Island

Shin Goo-Beom is an ex-Jeju Island governor who is doing a solidarity hunger strike with movie critic, Yang Yoon-Mo who was violently arrested and imprisoned on April 6 for his fierce struggle against the Jeju naval base construction. He demands the stop of naval base construction and punishment of all the policemen who joined the violent arrest of him, including the chief of the Seogwipo police station. Since then Yang has been continuing fast for 17days in jail as of April 22, 2011. Shin started on April 18. In the speech he gave to the people who gathered in the planned naval base coast, he talked how unjust the naval base construction in the Gangjeong village was and why there should be no naval base in the Jeju Island(April 21, 2011)
