Yang in jail, April 7, 2011
Cho Sung-Bong, film director of a Jeju 4.3 movie, “Red Hunt” has stayed in the Gangjeong village since his film screening in the village on April 2 and has organized the movie people’s meeting along with his wife for the release of Yang Yoon-Mo, movie critic (born in the Jeju Island, 1956)who is doing the prison fast for 35 days as of May 10, demanding the stop of the Jeju naval base construction and punishment of the Seogwipo station policemen who have violently arrested him on April 6, 2011. As a result of their efforts, some prominent film society figures including those of the independent movie field will have a press interview in the people’s sit-in site in the coast Gangjeong village on May 11, 2011. The movie people will also express their will to support the struggle against the Jeju naval base construction.
Cho has also made a special tribute for Yang Yoon-Mo with his wonderful photos. Click the link HERE to see more photos on Yang. He introduces Yang Yoon-Mo’s words he has remembered before Yang was imprisoned on April 6.

The below is a translation of portion of Yang’s words in his site:
“For me, struggle seems to be similar to ‘projection’. There are people who watch movie. In the struggle, there are people who see the struggle and who are influenced by it. I am not doing struggle just for my own ‘projection.’
Because struggle is of the process to solve the issue of community, there cannot but be the issues of the causal relationship between people and with the public. I mean our writings or words should be cast with the thought on concrete carrying-out plan and practice. If then, how many writings and words have I cast and turned back from them, living short life? There are too many things that I have not concerned with. I don’t want that anymore and want to live my life as a true wholeness.
If I have acted with the amount of my writings in the past, I think that I should reduce those, while I live life stronger and clearer even though the amount might be small . At the end of my that agony, there is the issue of how sincere I am in the struggle against the Jeju naval base construction. I will do all my effort to prevent it to my death but if I don’t remain trace, I cannot even warn to all the issues that would enter into the Jeju.
Words should be action! I want to embody it into myself. Not just posting it as slogans, but I am planning to express myself shown in actions that are also my words and writings.”
