Ohyunri People’s 500th Candle Light Vigil Night on Dec. 13, 2009

The candle right vigil by the people in Ohyun-ri against the expansion of the Mugeon-ri Military training field met its 500th anniversary on the night of Dec. 13, 2009.

There have been lots of village people’s sufferings and pains to this day. One of them included the sad memory of Mr. Nam Chang-Hee(46). He has committed suicide this October 7, tying his neck. He was heard to have suffered for his long disease of gloominess that had became worse by the experience of being jailed for the struggle and the police pressure against him for the fines for his public speech against the expansion of the Mugeonri military training field, last year

Despite that sad memory, many came to celebrate the night and made their will again for keeping Ohyun-ri from being robbed by the United States and South Korean governments.

Mr. Joo Byung-Joon, the chairman of the village people’s committee said on the night, “We have nothing to lose. We have nowhere to go if our lands are taken away. Only stick-to-it-iveness will guarantee our victory.”

The balloons that people made together with their written wishes were flown up to the sky, brightening the already starry night sky.
