How do the construction workers feel about their working for construction on the navy field office? Most of them came from the Jeju Island. Recently a construction worker in Seoul died being frozen because of coldness in his small and unheated room. The lives of the construction workers in the Jeju Island could be same or worse as well, as the Jeju has suffered for decreasing jobs and increasing irregular jobs due to the rich-centered developmentalism and neo-liberalism that have affected the Island, too.
Among the workers, one of them would say, “I have been in the Joongduk coast on Dec. 25 when Fr. Kang Woo-Il led the X-mass peace mass (which was against naval base) But what can we do? We are powerless” Another has said similar words days ago. He is a Gangjeong villager but works inside the gate. He said, “I understand you oppose the naval base. I am not happy, either, But what can we do? We are powerless.”

It is such sad and sorry situation that they are neither consoled enough nor provided with a positive vision of victory. One may say this to them.

“We understand you. We know that you don’t want the naval base. We know that you are doing that because of your livelihood. Please build well so that those buildings can be your children’s peace school in the future.”
